It is well documented that the partnership between Omega and the Olympic Games dates back to 1932. At the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932, Omega provided 30 high-precision chronographs certified by the Neuchatel Observatory in Switzerland, which was the most accurate certification standard that year. Since then, Omega has been measuring and recording every moment of the Olympic Games. At the venue of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Omega will continue to be the official timekeeper, providing timing and data processing services for the Olympic Games.
To pay tribute to the upcoming Olympic Games, Omega released the Speedmaster Mark II ‘Rio 2016’ chronograph. This watch is technically identical to the Speedmaster MarkII watch introduced at the Omega Basel 2014, and the design is inspired by the old version of the Speedmaster MarkII watch in 1969. However, unlike the same series of products, the two chronograph dials and small seconds dial of the Speedmaster MarkII “Rio 2016” are made of bronze, 925 silver and 18K gold, respectively, which symbolize the bronze, silver and gold medals of the Olympic Games. In addition, the dial of this watch only has a black color, the hands are white, the contrast is clear, and orange scales and chronograph hands are also produced.
This Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016” has a thick, stainless steel case with a strong brand recognition, and the invisible lug design makes it excellent even when worn on a medium-thickness wrist. This watch has a conventional small seconds dial, a cumulative time of 30 minutes and 12 hours, and a date display window is added at six o’clock. What’s more interesting is that this is Omega’s first speedometer available in the dark. The speed scale on the sapphire crystal is clear and filled with super luminous material and fixed under the aluminum bezel. The watch is equipped with an Omega 3330 movement, which is equipped with a silicon balance spring and a coaxial escapement. Each Speedmaster MarkII “Rio 2016” watch will be presented with a gift box and certificate of authenticity. The global limit is 2016. (Picture / Text Watch House Xiao Sen)
